On reading that, the born again Christian, Kaing Guek Eav, 66, better known as Duch, has finally ended up in front of a UN backed genocide trial, a little smile came across my face and my mind started drifting back to some nine years ago and to the day I visited the security prison 21 (S-21) in Pnom Pen. Not the place here to get into the gruesome details of a building that surely bears witness to some of the worst excesses of man’s inhumanity to man. The chief of the prison was Kaing Guek Eav and here we have his lawyers claiming that it is inhuman that their client has been imprisoned for nine years without going to trial and we have Kaing himself weeping after being taken to the scene of his alleged crimes and asking some of his former victims for forgiveness.(1) Born again Christian, spent nine years in prison before going to trial, begged for forgiveness; he might even get away with it! Of course, should that travesty of justice actually come about, it will be no more of a disgrace than the fact that no American will ever be held responsible for facilitating the ‘Khmer Rouge’s’ rise to power and for continuing to support them after they had been ousted by the Vietnamese in 1979(2) and, while there will be a certain satisfaction today for Duc’s victims and while his trial does bring a smile to my face, it is surely more important for all of us to start focusing on the cynicism and hyporcrisy of the United States. Perhaps, if we were to start to do this, we would begin to understand the world as it is and not as “Uncle Sam” and his lackies would like us to believe it is and maybe, just maybe, we might see, at least, a few more of the criminals end up in court. Of course, Ronald Reagan and Duch’s boss, Pol Pot, will never be brought to justice but we still have Kissenger, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Blair, Olmert, Livni, Barak and quite a few others out there on the loose and all of them are right up there with Duch, Kony, Nkunda, Khieu Samphan, and the other “maddies”. Today, I allowed myself a little smile but the day I see George W and his cronies, along with our zany Zionists, in the dock, will be the day I laugh my head off, fly to Munich, Glasgow or Shanghai and get absolutely plastered.
The pictures shows Security Prison 21 (S-21), at the former Tuol Svay Prey High School. It was here that some 17,000 people were tortured to death; only 12 survived. The picture was taken during my visit to, what is now known as, the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in 2001.
