There is me just out of bed and just about to toddle down to the Cafe for my morning coffee and instead I find myself reacting to a piece of news in the ‘Guardian’ this morning. “Israel is planning to demolish “illegal” solar panels that are the only source of electricity for Palestinians in West Bank villages.” Now, while I am tempted just to see this as another incident, although hardly incidental, in an ethnic cleansing that began in 1948, this particular story has me so angry that I am sitting down and putting off my morning fix of caffeine. Of course, some of you might be thinking if every incident were to get me this angry, I would never get away from the keyboard. Benefits of the Israeli occupation, ego had no time to be a coffee junkie. Well, this is not about ego and his habit, so here goes!
“Imneizil is not connected to the national electricity grid. Nor are the vast majority of Palestinian communities in Area C the 62% of the West Bank controlled by Israel.” “Illegal” panels, in the Israeli “controlled” 62% of the West Bank. This is madness, absolute madness; the occupation is illegal. Of course, with various NGO’s supplying, installing and maintaining the panels, there is a method in the madness; without electricity the people with have to leave their villages, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine continues unabated and in order to understand that we only have to read that, from 2001 to 2007, only 91 permits were issued for Palestinian construction in Area C, while 663 Palestinian constructions were demolished and more than 10,000 Israeli settlement units were built.Well, I have woken up without the coffee and maybe it is time to tell the rest of the plane to do the same.
10,000 illegal Israeli settlement units were built on illegally occupied territory. Yes, this is just another incident in an ongoing ethnic cleansing that began in 1948 and maybe I should calm down. After all, they are not cutting off my electricity and I have to get down to the Café for my morning coffee. This is something I will just have to cognitively process and in doing so the conclusion has to be the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, continues and would the two state proponents, such as Norman Finkelstein, tell us where this Palestinian “state” is going to be? Now, it is time for the coffee and I am already wondering if at the time of writing this, there are still people in Imneizil and if there are, will they be there when I get back?
