We had Moshe Zimmerman, the unremarkable “Historian”, and his tuppence worth on Günter Grass a couple of days ago. Still, at least Moshe’s contribution has been a sort of academic one,” albeit one that says nothing new. It is when we move away from Moshe, the soft Zionist, and towards the harder Zionist species, that it becomes particularly painful. Firstly, we have Benny Morris and his “groundbreaking” research, which “shows” that there was an ethnic cleansing in 1948, even if he does then maintain that here ethnic cleansing was necessary. Still, if nothing else, Benny could at least have called upon the fact that there are millions of Palestinians who, strangely, strangely, don’t live in Palestine. Still, credit where credit is due and at least Benny, like Moshe, doesn’t rely solely on pure fabrication unlike Mr Dershowitz, who Norman Finkelstein, exposes as a fraud who has plagiarised a fraud, or Daniel Goldhagen with his demonization of “all Germans” in his rather incohesive book Hitler’s Willing Executioners. Although, being incohesive is at least something when compared to his absurd, largely incoherent, more recent book, Worse than War. Yes, charlatans, the lot of them and don’t be asking them to cross their “tees” and dot their “eyes”, it is enough that with Morris and Zimmerman at least we have “work” that is reasonably cohesive and coherent.
Nevertheless, while we might expect the self-appointed media watchdog CAMERA (Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America) to turn a blind eye to their Zionist friends’ academic misdemeanors, we should not be surprised that any serious academic work on Israel or the Middle East will be closely scrutinised by them and, forget about the “tees” and the “eyes”, if there is a comma out-of-place, you are in trouble. Well, maybe not quite, but what about the following for an interesting story.
CAMERA has informed the Journal of Palestinian Studies that a citation, which references a quote made by David Ben-Gurion supporting the expulsion of Arabs from Palestine,, in Illan Pappe’s book, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, is incorrect and that Pappe “invented” or “fabricated” it. Pappe’s book was published in the Journal’s autumn 2006 edition. Of course, this is an attempt by an extremely unacademic ogranisation not only to undermine Pappe’s book, but, indeed, also to undermine him personally. Unfortunately, for CAMERA the Journal of Palestinian Studies has done its research and dug up a letter from Ben-Gurion, dated 5 October 1937, to his son, which vindicates Pappé’s “reading of Ben-Gurion’s position on transfer and the essential accuracy of his article.”
It is, unfortunate that we live in a world where serious academics, such as Illan Pappe, Norman Finkelstein (even the new non-Israel bashing Norman), and, the editor of the Journal of Palestine Studies, Rashid Khaladi, actually have to refute idiots such as Dershowitz, Morris, Goldhagen and the clowns at CAMERA. Nevertheless, they do have to. Otherwise it is a very strange narrative that will prevail and believe me, if that narrative prevails …. well, let’s forget about the ethnic cleansing of Palestine for a minute, let’s forget about the lies that the mass media feeds us on a daily basis, let’s forget the hypocrisy, about the mass murders and wars, here, there and everywhere, but can you really imagine a day when you wake up and you are actually expected to rely on the trash that these idiots produce for your information?
