Ralph McTell song; the bit about “yesterday’s paper telling yesterday’s news” and there was me sitting, supping coffee, chomping on a disgusting Marmite and cheese toast, and reading yesterday’s paper telling yesterday’s news. Get the Guardian for 50 pence at the university where I am working at the moment, but really don’t have the time to read it. Still, not missing much and while RT does have its’ own agenda, it can furnish the other side of the story.
The news blares out in the background, “we haven’t seen many of the bankers put in jail”, “surely HSBC by financing drug barons and terrorism are responsible for countless deaths”, “It is Saudi Arabia that is the main exporter of radical Islam” ….. the other side of the story, a different sort of news, and the back with the daily drivel we can read that HSBC apologise for “horrific actions”.
Ah, well at least they are saying they are sorry for helping to put that needle in your dead son’s arm, while the same online version of the Guardian has a clip of William Hague visiting Syrian refugees in Jordan, but not, of course, telling them that his government is partly responsible for their being refugees. ….. and don’t mention Bahrain, which the mainstream media appears to have completely forgotten.
My free copy of the Metro will be picked up tomorrow instead of yesterday’s paper telling yesterday’s news. Time to get into the moronic mood in head in the sand Blighty. Cannot be any worse than the dominant narrative in this part of the world, no more kidding myself on, drivel is drivel and with time at a premium it is time to keep it short and simple.
