A word on Chavez being re-elected

After the kind of turnout that would put our so-called “democracies” in the West to shame, an evil dictator who uses his country’s wealth for the benefit of the people, was reelected President of Venezuela for the fourth time. Of course, it should be pointed out that it is not only Hugo Chavez believing that his country’s resources should be there to benefit his countrymen, it is also, and probably more so, the fact that here we have someone who is actually calling for a global redistribution of wealth.

Indeed, Bill Fletcher from the Washington-based progressive think tank, Institute for Policy Studies, says, “Venezuela could be an example for other countries and a threat to what is known as the Washington Consensus. Yes, we wouldn’t want a system where the International Monetary Fund, World Bank and US Treasury Department rape them of their resources ends up in other countries also looking to evil dictators as an alternative.

There are a lot of poor bastards out there being used and abused; it is just not cricket "old bean". Something tells me that ignorance is not bliss, but is, in fact, simply ignorance and in the global village we cannot look the other way.
