The drive from Munich to Greve in Chianti is about seven hours. Tomorrow at least part of the day will be spent in the “Uffizi Musei”. The drive and the time is being shared with people and the altogether splendid isolation of back in Germany, informs me that I am not a completely people person. Therefore, it is my actually wanting to be on my own after spending weeks, indeed months on my own, doing nothing, that has finally seen me return to the blog.
A bout of escapism is being indulged in, but then you realise that it is not escapism per se, but rather that type of escapism that draws you back to the big bad world and invokes a welcome dissipation of that benign indifference to the planet that can only lead us nowhere.
As Israel prepares to make the people of Gaza suffer once again for their inability to dissipate like my mood has dissipated, the quite spineless “Guardian” might have us believe that there is some real exchange of fire going on down there, some real war, but then that is the mainstream press for you.
In the meantime, “more explosions heard in Gaza”, and when we no longer believe the so-called “militants” endangering Israeli lives fairy tale, they will be telling us is that there is a mass movement of suicide bombers in Gaza, while elsewhere we are told that Britain is stepping up support for the so-called “Syrian opposition”. Yes, it is off to the Uffiizi tomorrow and me grabbing my time and space, in a very different reality some distance away from the hypocrites and the jungle, even if, during my silent period vis-a-vis this blog, they and it has never gone away.
