The Roots of Israeli Attack on Gaza

Phyllis Bennis would appear to lend some substance to my own conclusion from earlier today that for the Palestinians their peace will be not too different from the peace offered by Rome to Carthage, which, of course, disappeared from the map. Or how else might we interpret her contention that  Ahmed Jabari, received a draft of a long-term ceasefire agreement with Israel only hours prior to his assassination.

According to a report in ‘Haaretz’ on Thursday Gershon Baskin, an Israeli peace activist, who has reportedly mediated between Israel and Hamas in the past, maintained that “senior officials in Israel knew about his contacts with Hamas and Egyptian intelligence aimed at formulating the permanent truce, but nevertheless approved the assassination.”  For the Zionist leadership Palestine is to suffer Carthage’s fate and for that to happen there can be no negotiated settlement that will leave them with their dignity.

About sanculottist

There are a lot of poor bastards out there being used and abused; it is just not cricket "old bean". Something tells me that ignorance is not bliss, but is, in fact, simply ignorance and in the global village we cannot look the other way.
