Thoughts from London

In London for a few days sorting out visa issues for a return to the Middle East. The confrontation with ‘Blighty’  leaves me, as ever, sort of gobsmacked. The free copy of the ‘Daily Mail’ on the plane informs me that Prince Charles doesn’t only talk to his plants, but that he also instructs them, while we might also expect hordes of Bulgarians and Romanians to flood England’s green and pleasant land in search of welfare benefits when Britain finally relaxes employment restrictions regarding those countries and comply with its obligations according to EU law.

Crossing London on the tube from Heathrow to my hotel east of Liverpool Street, changing at Holborn and finally being able to squash myself into the third train to arrive at the platform and I would be forgiven for thinking,  “who, but who, in their right mind, would want to join this rat race.” Still, the evidence would seem to suggest – or so they would have us believe – that there are hoards waiting to invade and destroy the Welfare State. Can’t have that, can we? After all, David Cameron and his cronies are already doing a good job and the last think Davie and his mates need is help from “Johnny Foreigner”. Wake up, please, do you all forget that it is the rich city types, a hop, skip and a jump from the  hotel I am in at the moment, who have robbed and are robbing the country blind.

Of course, the myopia is par for the course, and while it does seem particularly accentuated in “the man who instructs his plants, Britain, it is really here, there, and everywhere  and last week  we had Ilene Grabel from the University of Denver explaining, to the ‘Real News’ editor Paul Jay, the hypocrisy of the IMF, which condemns China for buying up dollars to protect its currency, while the United States practices quantitative easing to keep the dollar at an depreciated level and there is not much coverage regarding Bradley Manning, is there? Well, they don’t want us being too exposed to the fact that we have a disgustingly criminal and hypocritical little elite who will do just about anything they can to keep their whole shebang on the road.

Still, it doesn’t work, does it? I mean, the finite resources and the infinite demand and something is going to have to give. Coughing their lungs out in Beijing,  the Congo being raped for its raw materials, corrupt little native elites providing Uncle Sam with the compliant sycophants to keep his nonsensical little system ticking over, the rich getting richer, the poor getting poorer and ……. Still, inevitable as the collapse is I can only at best agree with Terry Eagleton who contends in his book, Why Marx was Right’ , that it is difficult to say what will happen when it collapses, something that the Slovenian philosopher, Slavoj Zizek appears to agree with in his book ‘Living in the End Times’ .

Nevertheless, do we really need to have this mindless stupidity, this mind boggling ignorance, where a man can tell a pathetic excuse for a newspaper that he verbally instruct plants, and where people actually take an interest in crap like that, where poor people are being shafted and are then told that it is other poor people who are shafting them while the rich boys take the proverbial cunt out of all and sundry and, of course, pocket all the money? Do we really need this barbarism where kids are getting their limbs chopped off so other kids can have an Iphone 5, where innocent civilians are being tortured and where drones are killing children? Yes we might not know what will happen, but really, can it be any worse?

About sanculottist

There are a lot of poor bastards out there being used and abused; it is just not cricket "old bean". Something tells me that ignorance is not bliss, but is, in fact, simply ignorance and in the global village we cannot look the other way.
