The Guardian guide to the “Stans”

  • A little “Guardian” guide to the “Stans”, which was published in the wake of Jennifer Lopez’s Saturday night performance in Turkmenistan, where “Torture and other ill-treatment by security forces remained widespread”, makes for interesting reading and my mind wandered back to Sting’s praising of John Perkin’s book, ‘The Secret History of the American Empire’, when he says that Perkin’s books have helped him “better understand why so many resource rich countries in the developing world have remained steadfastly poor.”Yes, folks the same Sting who accepted more than one million pounds to sing for the Uzbek dictator Islam Karimov’s daughter in a country where according to Amnesty says,

“Human rights defenders and journalists continue to be harassed, beaten, prosecuted and detained. The use of torture and other ill-treatment is frequent.”The world of entertainment really is riddled with myopic hypocrites and these clowns certainly need no lessons from Obama and company.

About sanculottist

There are a lot of poor bastards out there being used and abused; it is just not cricket "old bean". Something tells me that ignorance is not bliss, but is, in fact, simply ignorance and in the global village we cannot look the other way.
