Lincoln, a Royal Marine advert, and “Eastern Bloc” workers taking “British Jobs”

Working in Lincoln, England for a few weeks and there will be more to follow as I engage with the blog. That shouldn’t be too difficult as one really does stumble over things here.

Sitting in the cinema, for instance, I was confronted again with an advert, which I had seen previously on television here, for recruitment to the Royal Marines. After watching a very serious, very armed camouflaged killing machine, wading through mud  being faced down by an enemy only to have his killing machine mates revealed we are asked the question “Have you got what it takes?”

Of course, I am hardly the target audience for this crap and it is no doubt aimed at a gutsy youth, who might find wading in mud with guns an attractive to the job they cannot get anywhere because, according to the Labour Party, “Eastern Bloc” workers are getting the jobs that should be their birth right.

In the article itself and in the letters that follow there is no mention of the fact that there is no longer such a thing as and “Eastern Bloc” and that these “foreigners” are actually European citizens, in this case mostly from Poland. One must really wonder what the Labour Party is about here but more importantly the article along with the advert for the Royal Marines really does give us an indication as to where the mindset really is in good old Blighty.

There are a lot of poor bastards out there being used and abused; it is just not cricket "old bean". Something tells me that ignorance is not bliss, but is, in fact, simply ignorance and in the global village we cannot look the other way.
